January 31 - February 4, 2011

The Blog is a couple days late due to the unexpected days off.

Show and Tell this week:  Free Choice!
Show and Tell NEXT week:  Hearts!

The whole class:
Letter of the Week: O
Art: Chinese Lanterns
Science:  Rabbits (postponed)
Social Studies:  Chinese/Lunar New Year

Because of the school closures, we missed most of our number and letter lessons this week.  We have covered the letter O in the past, but we will move our other academic lessons to next week.

Hope you all stayed warm and cozy on our "snow days"!

FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER:

Dear Parents,                                                                                                              4 February 2011

Wow! What a week!  Hope that the days at home were warm, fun and un-stressful!  It is nice to be back at school!

Our February theme is “Working and Playing Together.”  That is what preschool is all about!  Our focus will be on children working and playing together, along with teaching them how adults work together.

The Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year was February 3rd.  The class enjoyed seeing Mrs. Sykes dressed up in Vietnamese dress (she used to live there).  We also discussed a bit about Asian culture.  It was fun!

Teacher Change – As some of you have noticed, we have a NEW afternoon teacher!  Jada Kankle, also known as Mrs. “K”, started out as a sub for the preschool.  It has been a joy to have her in our class on a regular basis.

Cubbies – We have noticed a few children are missing a change of clothes in their cubbies, and others that have summer clothing in their bag.  Please check your child’s cubby to be certain they have what they need.  By-the-way, a change of clothes does not always mean a potty accident.  Sometimes it is food or falling on the playground, which happens rather often.  Items to include in the change-of-clothes bag:  pants, shirt, underwear, and socks
Water Bottles – Please send water bottles.  We do not have a water fountain in our room, and the one in the hallway is too high for most of our class.  Thank you for helping us keep your child well hydrated! J

Winter Clothing – Thanks so much for sending warm coats, hats and gloves.  We are trying very hard to keep track of all of these items!  Let us know right away if you notice something missing.  Also … we do not mind if your child wears boots in class.

Show & Tell – We have a theme for show and tell each week, but please know it is only an idea to help parents at home.  There is no pressure to get it “right!”  Have fun!  Here are the themes for February Show&Tell:
February 4 – Free Choice (sorry for the short notice)
February 11 – Hearts
February 18 – Favorite Hat
February 25 – Something that starts with the letter N, O, P, or Q.

Valentine’s Day – We are having a small class party during our morning centers on Valentine’s Day.  Parents you are welcome to come and hang out with us!  It will start at (about J) 8:50am.  We are making Valentines as an art project before-hand.  Your child is welcome to bring Valentines for their classmates.  However, to cut down on sugar overload at school, we will send the treats home at the end of the day. J Please ask if you have more questions.
Just a note:  NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 21st.

Have a wonderful Valentine’s month!
