March 28 - April 1, 2010

Well we made it through the first week of the changes!  We are still tweaking a few areas, especially cubbies and coat hooks.  We should have it all in place by the end of the week!  One important note:  Space for naptime items is being drastically reduced.  Thank you so much for your understanding in helping us keep those items organized and sanitary!

Also, we are dividing the class into three academic groups based on each child's level with numbers and letters.  We are hoping to have those groups organized by next week.

Please feel free to ask us any questions you have about the transition.

Show and Tell this week: Spring Time!
Show and Tell NEXT week:  Free Choice!

Letter of the Week:  Review P-T
Art: Pre-historic!
Science:  Dinasaurs - Review
Social Studies:  Taking care of our Library books!
Literacy: Review recogniztion and sound for letters P, Q, R, S and T
Math: #6 and 60's

April Newsletter:

Dear Parents,                                                                                       April, 2011

Wow!  What a time of change!  Not only is the season changing, but our class has changed!  It has been challenging, but we have also had plenty of fun in the process.

Because of limited space, there are several changes we are making.  Please read carefully and ask if you have any questions.

Cubby Drawers:
Nap Time Items – We are asking that you please limit naptime items to what can fit in the “cubbies” – the plastic drawers.  We simply do not have space to store more than what will fit inside the drawers.  The students have had a “naptime bag,” and we encourage them to continue to use this and just put the whole bag in their cubby!  Due to the increased number of students, we need to keep these items separated by student for sanitation reasons.  Naptime items MUST fit inside your child’s drawer during the school day, including pillow-pets, blankets or sheets.  Thank you for your understanding!  Also, we will continue to send naptime things home on Fridays to be washed.
Change of clothes – Please keep an emergency change of clothes in the “cubby” also.  It is a good idea to update these periodically as your child grows! J These items include:
1.     1 pair of socks
2.     1 pair of underwear
3.     1 pair of pants
4.     1 shirt

Coat and backpack hooks
We will be lowering the  hooks in the hallway for backpacks and jackets/coats.  Please do not leave pillow-pets or other items on the floor under the hooks.  Since this space is outside of our classroom, we need to be especially careful to keep it neat and picked up.

Lunch boxes
Please hang lunch boxes on the hooks in the classroom.  This enables the teachers to find and pass them out with ease at lunch time.

Water bottles
We have been placing these on the window sill during the day and it seems to work well.  Our plan is to send water bottles home on Fridays to be washed.  Mrs. J donated the water bottles for her class to each student!  We will send these home as personal water bottles on Fridays also.

Boxes
These are located under the sign-in desk.  Please check these boxes everyday.  Four      of the “boxes” are folders attached to the sides of the cabinets.  The folders are box #’s 25, 26, 27, and 28.  There will be artwork, school papers, and letters for you in your child’s box.  The boxes are our way of communicating with you.  Thank you for taking a few seconds to check your child’s box at the end of each day.

Blog Page
Our class has a blog page.  It is usually updated on Tuesdays and includes academic themes for the week, the Show&Tell theme for Friday, and any class updates.  Please check it out! http://www.tpaakprek.blogspot.com/

Mrs. Sykes’ email:
ssykes@tpaak.org  Please feel free to email me any questions, concerns or ideas.  You can also email to inform us of illness or absences.

Show & Tell
On Fridays, we have “Show & Tell.”  There is a designated theme for each week.  It is not required that you follow the theme.  It is mostly an aid for parents in finding something to bring!  Have fun with it!  We sure do! J
